Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish

Historical Background

A. Parish

Initially a makeshift altar turned Chapel of the Nativity upon the initiative of the employees of the DBP Housing area led by Mr. and Mrs. Delfin Palacios. Later administered by Msgr. Alfredo Reyes, Parish Priest of Philam Sta. Rita and assisted by guest priests, notably the Reverend Fathers Ben Villote, Israel Nacu, Dick Freiss and Dave Viehland.

Zealously serviced by the members of the Catholic Women’s League, sub-chapter of Sta. Rita Parish.

This Chapel of the Nativity was instituted into a new Parish renamed “Parish of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary”, by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal L. Sin on February 27, 1988 and installed Rev. Fr. Rio G. Evangelista as its first parish priest.

Through the persistent efforts of Barangay Captain Atty. Arturo De Leon and then Fr. Dave Viehland, the Quezon City government through Mayor Brigido Simon awarded the contract of lease of the church site to the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila in June 5, 1988.

On May 3, 1992, during the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II, and the incumbency of President Corazon C. Aquino, the beautiful church was formally consecrated and dedicated by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal L. Sin., DD Archbishop of Manila.

Architect Noli Bernardo is the architect of the church and its first parish council president.
